How to enable privacy protection for .cn domain names on Alibaba Cloud

Preface#

People often ask me why I am still using this domain name; I can only say it's a historical issue (I've used it for so long that I'm too lazy to think about changing it).

.CN indeed comes with a lot of troubles, and the lack of privacy protection is one of the most critical issues, as it means others can query your name and contact information at any time through other WHOIS services.
(Aliyun's WHOIS cleverly hides this information, making people think that personal information has received so-called "default protection.")

I hadn't dealt with this before, partly because it was troublesome, and the traffic was low, mostly from acquaintances. Also, the renewal fee for a '.cn' domain is 39/year, and privacy protection is also 39/year, which adds up to the cost of a .com.

Start#

Originally, .cn domains came with free privacy protection services, but this was turned off at the request of CNNIC. Under the new regulations this year, you can pay to enable it, but Aliyun's domain control panel does not provide a direct link to enable it; you need to submit a support ticket to find it.

Cost: 39/year, for specific rules see: Announcement on the Charging of Privacy Protection Services for National Top-Level Domains (.CN, . 中国) on January 1

Complete payment here: Unpaid Order Management
There will be a few days of delay; just wait for it to finish (non-working days like weekends cannot be processed <- this was not mentioned in my support ticket inquiry).

After a few days of long waiting, you should find your order (as shown below).

After successful payment, the relevant settings still do not appear in the console,
but according to third-party WHOIS queries, the privacy protection should be effective immediately.

Postscript#

Renewal? I didn't see a direct introduction to the renewal method in these documents, but after inquiring through a support ticket, it is to repurchase before expiration, and the remaining time can be accumulated.

No one will read the user agreement: National Top-Level Domain Privacy Protection Service Agreement (In short: Don't do illegal things, the interpretation rights belong to the official).

This has essentially made the last cost-effectiveness of .cn disappear, turning a necessity into a luxury that is hard to purchase. (But to prevent box weapons, it's still worth it!
